Ft. Meyers Series: Feb 6, 2005
By John Kremski

Our February 6 race had a really great turn-out, with fourteen (count'em - 14!!)
boats turning out for a breezy day.  At the suggestion of Jack Scragg; the
sailors were broken up into "A" and "B" fleets - had a few "A" fleeters try to
pass themselves off as "B" fleet material; but the RC put a stop to that!

With great planing conditions, we did five modified olympic triangle races
(windward-reach-reach-windward-leeward-finish course).  The Hyatt family was
plagued with gear breakdowns, with John's rudder pin falling overboard after the
first race, and Aline pulling a mainsheet pulley off of her boom after race 3 -
even a Sunfish needs some maintenance!!

The scoring was close in both fleets.  In "B" Fleet Phil MeWhinney beat out Jim
Summers in a tie breaker for first, followed by Bob Howe in third, and in "A"
Fleet John Kremski (after capsizing TWICE in the last race) edged out Jack
Scragg in a tie for first, followed by Rose Rowland edging out Damien Lin in a
tie for third place, followed by Scott Sutton in 5th.

We finished up in time for all the football fans to get home in time for the
super-bowl.

Our next regatta is on March 20, Sunday.  We'll follow the races with a cook-out
and socializing, so come on down and have a great time!  If you want to use a
club boat, PLEASE let me know in advance, so I can reserve one for you - we are getting all the boats out regularly now.  If you want to come out and ride on
the committee boat, and just have a great day on the water you are welcome to do that, too!
