Monk Smith Regatta

Bay-Waveland Yacht Club hosted the Monk Smith Regatta over the weekend of Sept 20 & 21 in a medium to light southerly under a front that chickened out.  A short stop for practice one week before the next Circuit race was a definite necessity for junior, Sam Waller.  Kevin Northrup led the first round of the 2WL race one, but two juniors would make it clear that the regatta would not be handed to him.  Sam ran Kevin down on the next leg and held on to win while Chris Evans and master, Mike Carron closed the gap.

Races two and three were even tighter, but in both races, Sam rolled to weather and in both races, couldn't recover to finish.  With a circuit race in one week, he should seriously reconsider just how far to push the envelope downwind.

Chris Evans, after leading race two through the first round, lost to Kevin on shifts during the last upwind.  Having finished second  to Jeff Linton at the Gulf Coast Regionals, Kevin is no slouch, so with a little practice, these two juniors are going to be a force very shortly.
