Yacht Club of Sea Isle City, NJ
Thirty Sunfish sailors came to the Yacht Club of Sea Isle City, New Jersey on the South Jersey coast
to compete in the first section of the Mid-Atlantic World Qualifying regattas. Seven races
were conducted over the two-day period with absolutely perfect weather. The wind ranged from a
gentle breeze at the start, gradually increasing to about 15 knots by the last race.
Completely dominating the field was Brigantine Yacht Club's Tom Donahue with a lead of 27 points
over the second place finisher. Racing was very competitive with a tie for 4th and 5th places.
First Master was Don Echevarria from the Avalon Yacht Club. Susan Huffington, sailing
out of the Marsh Creek Sailing Club in Downington, PA was he first Lady finisher.
Erich Hesse was the first Junior, coming down from Bohemia, New York and the Wet Pants Sailing
Association.
