Wet N Cold Regatta

1st Gulf Coast Junior Circuit Stop

This regatta lived up to its name as the mid 50 degree temperatures and the 15 knot winds made things a little chilly.  Saturday mornings’ first race saw 5 knots from the NW.   The sea breeze filled in for the following three races of the day to challenge the juniors with 12 to 15 knots. 

Sunday morning the sailors were meet with NW winds again but this time 15+ knots.  The winds diminished to 8 – 10 for the next race but the seas did not.  Several Juniors were asking how to handle the chop after the races. 

Current Junior NA Champ Karl Klienschrodt dominated the event but 2nd, 3rd and 4th (Sam Waller, Andrew Eagan and Katia Riise) had an interesting regatta.  Third place finisher Andrew Egan was quick to point out to Karl that his trophy was gold, however, Karl promptly corrected him that it was bronze, not gold.  Maybe next time Drew!!!  

Many thanks to the Fairhope Yacht Club who continue to perform as gracious hosts for these events.   The next Circuit Race for the Junior will be June 23 at BWYC.  We look forward to seeing more juniors come out and improve their skills.
