2001 Gulf Coast Regionals
Date (July 7-8, 2001?)
Location (?)
The Gulf Coast
Regionals are over! It was an exhausting regatta as Mother Nature did not
cooperate,....more frustrating than exhausting. Only two races were completed
on Saturday and on Sunday a lightning storm just to the north kept us on
shore.
Congratulations to
Ash Beatty (3001). He as has become a real light air expert. The racing was
tight a the top three finished with a total of four, five and six points. The
next four boats finished within two points of each other and had one
tie-breaker. Full results below.
Also Ash joins the
company of Jeff Linton, Hank Saurage and Johnny Lovell as Gulf Coast
Champions. This designation is awarded to the top finisher at the Gulf Coast
Regionals.
These two races
were sailed in very light air that was consistently inconsistent in
velocity and direction. The patience of the seventeen sailors was tested by
Mother Nature. Sailors from the Florida Pan-handle to Texas, with six masters,
four juniors, and five women competed.
Saturday night
activities included a Mexican dinner on the water's edge, the Par 3,
putt-putt, and go-karts.
Insider
information: At the next major event where a group goes to play putt-putt, Ann
Swan (77518) and Clinton Edwards (77348) stink. Todd Edwards (76453) and
Melissa Chapoton (78424) are ringers. Of course, the teams were Todd and
Melissa vs Ann and Clinton. Ann and Clinton were down by five after the first
hole. Our best shot was when Ann knocked Clinton's golf ball into the
hole for a score of 1. I don't care what the rules say, we needed the one.
