Smoke Rise was the host of the 2011 SANJL Junior Championship. Fourteen young sailors gathered to test their skills against each other in the light August winds.

Simon Bertocci overcame the challenges of shifting wind patterns to win the Junior division and Corrado Fazio sailed his way to victory in the Midget division.

For Simon this is his third time winning the event. He won the regatta in both 2008 and 2010. He was also the top United States finisher at the recent Junior Sunfish North American Championships in Barrington, Rhode Island.

The competition in the Junior division was strong. Entering the final race, four sailors were separated by a single point for the second place position. David Graf of Mountain Lakes sailed well under pressure and finished strong narrowly defeating Meredith Kresic (3rd) of Highland Lakes, Morgan Laievee (4th) of HSC and Shane Oryniak (5th) also of HSC.
