Eduardo Cordero won the 2022 Sunfish US Masters Championship
Eduardo Cordero won the 2022 Sunfish US Masters Championship. The 3-day regatta was hosted by the Bay Waveland Yacht Club in Bay St. Louis, MS. This was Cordera’s first US Masters regatta but he has eight ISCA World Championships, six North Americans, and two South American Championships to his credit.
Day 1 consisted of a 5-10 knot southeast breeze. After a number of General Recalls, the Uniform flag tamed the fleet somewhat as the Race Committee was able to get off fouer races. Cordero’s consistency and downwind prowess paid off in the shifty condition as he finished the day with 10 points (3-2-3-2 in a 37-boat fleet) with Andy Beekman, representing Newport Harbor Yacht Club, only 2 points behind (2-4-5-1).

Day 2 was a light and fluky southerly breeze. Event chair and local BWYC sailor Eugene Schmitt seemed to find a gear in the lighter air and moved up the leaderboard with finishes of 2-1-1-1. Cordero still held a 4-point lead going into the final Day 3 (1-2-(8)-2).
Andy Beeckman (2nd Overall), Eduardo Cordera (1st Overall), and James Malm (6th).
Day 3 presented a variety of conditions including a drifter in the early morning northerly followed by a solid southerly in the afternoon. Andy Beekman owned the day with finishes of 1-1-3 putting him solidly in second place behind Cordero for the regatta.
