| New England Regionals at Wequaquet Lake Yacht Club (WLYC) July 22-23, 2023 Celebrating a 60-Year History with WLYC The Camp Opechee restaurant opened in 1903 on Lake Wequaquet and was famous for its lobsters and steamers. That same building, today, is the clubhouse for the Wequaquet Lake Yacht Club famous for 60 years of Sunfish regattas. Forty Sunfish sailors from all over the country sailed in the New Regionals to help celebrate this special occasion and enjoy the warm welcome and excellent event that Chairperson Wendy LeJava has organized for many, many years. So this is also a year when the Sunfish Class wants to celebrate Wendy for her years of dedication, excellent organizational skills and obvious passion for Sunfish sailing. Our Sunfish sailors always look forward to their adventures at WLYC – adventures that are filled with challenging sailing conditions and generous hospitality on shore. Thank you, Wendy, and to everyone at the Wequaquet Lake Yacht Club who provide an event every year that makes Sunfish sailors feel like they have “come home.”

2023 Lansing Sunfish Regatta Lake Lansing Sailing Club, Haslett, Michigan July 22, 2023 By Alanna Harvey Saturday morning dawned with clear blue skies and no wind for the annual Sunfish Regatta at Lansing Sailing Club. Nine sunfish sailors waited for the wind to fill in by playing Euchre, playing the board game Regatta (from the 60s!) and talking sailing. The wind filled in as we ate an early lunch and six races were sailed in the afternoon with one throwout. All sailors were from Lansing Sailing Club. John Fishbeck took top honors with a low score of 7, including four first place finishes! Susan Taylor took second with 10 points, (the rest of the first place finishes John didn't nab) and Jonathan Ahlbrand took third, with 13 points, right on the heels of Susan and John. This was Susan’s first Sunfish regatta (she usually sails ILCA Dinghies). This also was Igor Voytsekhivsky’s first regatta. Sunfish sail every Wednesday night, Lansing Sailing Club has a fleet of club Sunfish and the fleet would love to help you learn to race. You’re welcome to join us anytime! | Skipper | Club | 6 Races | TOT | 1 | John Fishbeck | Lansing Sailing Club | 1-1-1-1-4*-3 | 7 | 2 | Susan Taylor | Lansing Sailing Club | 3-2-6*-3-1-1 | 10 | 3 | Jonathon Ahlbrand | Lansing Sailing Club | 2-5*-2-2-3-4 | 13 | 4 | Lars Peereboom | Lansing Sailing Club | 4-4-4-4-5*-2 | 18 | 5 | Blaine Severin | Lansing Sailing Club | 5-6-5-5-2-7* | 23 | 6 | Keith Hayes | Lansing Sailing Club | 6-3-3-6-7*-5 | 23 | 7 | Lisa Benton | Lansing Sailing Club | 7-7-8*-7-8-6 | 35 | 8 | Julie Pierce | Lansing Sailing Club | 8*-8-7-8-6-8 | 37 | 9 | Igor Voytsekhivsky | Lansing Sailing Club | 9*-9-9-9-9-9 | 45 |
